The Kiwanis Club of Pike Road Hosting 4th Annual Family Fun Run to Fund Scholarships for Local Students

by Shop Pike Road

The Kiwanis Club of Pike Road will be hosting its 4th annual Family Fun Run, scheduled to take place on April 13, 2024. This event aims to raise funds for scholarships that will benefit Pike Road students pursuing higher education.

The untimed 5K Family Fun Run will kick off at 8 a.m., starting from the town square at The Waters. Runners of all ages and fitness levels are invited to participate, and families are encouraged to join in the fun, with walkers and strollers also welcome. This family-friendly event promises an enjoyable experience for everyone involved.

According to Kiwanis Club of Pike Road President, Matt Missildine, “The proceeds from the Family Fun Run and from the club’s sale of historic Pike Road Christmas ornament each December go toward college scholarships for seniors in Pike Road schools. The club has given $13,500 in scholarships the last two years and students have used the scholarships to attend Auburn, Alabama, Tuskegee, Montevallo, Troy and Southern Union.”

“Supporting the youth in our community is the mission of Kiwanis; everything we do is to provide them with opportunities they may not have otherwise,” Missildine stated passionately.

Participants of the Family Fun Run will receive a colorful t-shirt to commemorate their involvement. Registration fees $25 for adults and $15 for children.

To register for the event, interested individuals can visit www.active.com and search for the “Pike Road Fun Run,” or they can directly access the registration link at: Pike Road Fun Run Registration. Additionally, on the day of the Fun Run, participants can register onsite at the pavilion in the town square.

The success of the Family Fun Run would not be possible without the generous support of various sponsors. The event is proudly sponsored by Fleet Feet Montgomery, Lowder New Homes, Mossy Oak Properties/Alabama Land Crafters, Dixie Electric Cooperative, Southeast Gas, State Farm, the Montgomery County Commission, Cuco’s, Reformation Presbyterian Church, Pike Acres Environmental, Pike Road Dental, Alabama One Credit Union, Made by Mackin, Golden Animal Hospital, New Waters Realty, SweetCreek Farm Market, and the Town of Pike Road.

Apart from the Family Fun Run and the sale of Christmas ornaments, the Kiwanis Club of Pike Road actively participates in numerous community events throughout the year. Some of their involvements include picking up litter during the town’s roadside cleanups in April, assisting with parking at the Pike Road Summerfest in July, decorating hay bales for Pike Road’s “Hay, Look at Us” contest in October, and providing assistance in food preparation for the Pike Road Arts and Crafts Fair in November.

For those interested in learning more about the Kiwanis Club of Pike Road and their various initiatives, the club holds bi-monthly meetings on the first and third Tuesdays of each month. The meetings take place at noon at Cuco’s located at 11123 Chantilly Parkway. Anyone eager to make a difference and contribute to the community is invited to attend these meetings.
