Pike Road voters narrowly pass property tax increase for education

Voters in Pike Road on Tuesday narrowly passed a property tax increase to fund construction of a new high school, with 59 votes deciding the matter.

The final tally, including absentees, was 1,091 yes votes to 1,032 no votes, in complete but unofficial results. And the total may even be closer after the election is certified, since 57 provisional votes were cast.

The provisional votes will have to be certified by the board of registrars and will be counted next Tuesday. But even if every provisional vote is counted and comes in as a no vote, the margin of victory at 59 votes ensures the measure passes.
